Long-term care facility support

When the dependent person lives in a long-term care facility, long-term care insurance provides for the following benefits:

  • benefits in kind;
  • assistive technology.

Since the support is provided exclusively by professionals, the benefits in kind cannot be replaced a cash benefit.

Benefits in kind

Inpatient benefits in kind cover the assistance and/or care provided to dependent persons by professional long-term care facility personnel.

Dependent persons may be entitled to:

  • assistance and care to perform activities of daily living (ADLs);
  • support activities in long-term care facility.

The cost of incontinence products is taken into consideration when calculating the monetary value applicable to facilities.

Assistive Technology

Coverage of assistive technology varies depending on where the beneficiary is living/staying. For persons staying in an assisted living facility or in supervised accommodation, assistive technology may be covered by the long-term care insurance provider, but the coverage is more restrictive (see the appendix to the amended Grand-Ducal regulation of 24 January 2024 for a list of assistive equipment/devices covered by long-term care insurance ). This is because care and assistance facilities and supervised accommodation facilities are required to have their own assistive technology, as specified in the approval required by the law governing relations between the State and organisations involved in social, family-related and healthcare matters.
